Halloween in Japan is a little different from the familiar tradition of children going door to door for candy. Costumes, theme parks, seasonal food, and limited-edition merchandise play a major role. Here is what makes Halloween in Japan unique and how people can enjoy it in 2026.
Costumes Are a Big Part of Halloween in Japan
In many Western countries, Halloween is strongly associated with children saying “Trick or Treat” as they visit neighborhood homes. In Japan, dressing up is also a major attraction. People enjoy costumes inspired by anime, games, movies, and other characters, making Halloween a natural match for Japan’s cosplay and fashion culture.
Theme Parks Turn Halloween Into a Major Event
Theme parks are another popular way to experience Halloween in Japan. Tokyo Disney Resort is holding “Disney Halloween” again in 2026. Visitors can enjoy seasonal entertainment, costumes, food, and merchandise, turning Halloween into a complete event rather than a single evening of trick-or-treating.
Limited-Edition Goods Are Part of the Fun
Shopping is also closely connected with seasonal events in Japan. Tokyo Disney Resort began selling Halloween merchandise for 2026 on September 15. One example is the Churros Snack, featuring Mickey-shaped pieces with a maple-pumpkin flavor. Priced at ¥1,100, it is a fun way to bring a little Japanese Halloween atmosphere home.

Japanese Halloween Is Not Just About Being Scary
Halloween merchandise in Japan can be cute as well as spooky. In 2026, Tokyo Disney Resort also introduced a five-piece Halloween costume set for plush toys. Dressing favorite characters for the season reflects Japan’s strong character-goods culture and offers another way to enjoy Halloween.
